Giving an Experience instead of "Stuff"

11/23/2016

“Stuff” seems to sometimes consume our way of life.  We collect things until they pile up and burst from our seams.  I often ask myself, “how did I get all this ‘stuff’?”  It’s years of the small well meaning things, the fun things, the things I had to have, some I didn’t, and stuff others thought I needed.  Downsizing can help shed excess pounds of small stuff, but when the holidays come around, it’s hard not to want to give gifts to the ones we love the most.  Gifts we know may one day turn into just “stuff.” So what to do?

What in the end do we really cherish? More often than not, it’s memories — adventures embarked on, funny stories lived, moments that took our breath away, newly learned skills, and joy filled experiences  . . . experiences.  So, I decided to try and give experiences as much as possible.  That’s one reason why I do painting vacations - to give opportunities of another story to tell and memory to cherish, a fun time with new learned skills and breathtaking moments.

If you are struggling to find the perfect gift for your loved one this year and absolutely can not stand the Black Friday crowds, consider giving the gift of an experience.  An experience your loved one can cherish with you or on their own.  We have two great painting vacations coming up in 2017, one to Venice, Italy and the other to Yellowstone National Park.  Both trips include fantastic art instruction as well as extra goodies that make vacations fun like enjoying gourmet food, visiting museums, sightseeing, and more.  This is a gift that will never collect dust or become just another piece of “stuff.”  This is a gift of adventure and creativity.  Check out our vacations and see what you think!

Patti Mollica the author

We're spending a little time this October talking about our June 2017 Venice instructor, Patti Mollica. Not only is she a wonderful in-person teacher, but she is an excellent instructional author as well.  Patti has written three books: “Modern Acrylics," “Color Theory," and “Acrylics - Getting Started." Each one continuously receives rave reviews.  Here’s a couple purchaser praiseworthy comments on each book (taken from Amazon) just to show you how much people get out of working with Patti and her techniques. I mean,  how fun would it be to have individualized instruction from her in the piazzas and alongside the canals of Venice?!!  A once in a life-time opportunity to say the least. Register for your spot today and snag that early bird special!  Check out her books early to get a head start and some inspiration :-).

We can’t be more excited to have Patti teaching the Venice workshop in June, and here’s just one of the many reasons why: every student who takes a workshops from her loves it and her. Unequivocally loves it! Her style and method of teaching is fun, instructive, inspiring, and well student’s have used the phrases “heel-kicking” and “exhilarating” to describe the experience. She focuses on you as an artist rather than trying to have you copy her. She brings new insight into color, value, brush handling, and so much more. Here’s what some of her past workshop students have had to say, and don’t miss this incredible opportunity to learn from her in Venice!

From Patti’s students about past workshops of hers:

“All I can say is absolutely fabulous workshop! So content rich!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!  You are an amazing, soulful art studies instructor and human being.”

“Best workshop ever. Life changing experience. Patti’s talented, delightful, and offers such great advice and encouragement!  A truly inspiring experience!”

“Learned more in Patti’s workshop than in any of the others I’ve attended. The others literally pale in comparison.”

“Patti Mollica is one of the finest instructorsI have had at HRV, and I have had some great workshops here.  She has a well thought out week planned - great reference photos and interesting exercise. I have learned so much about color and brush handling from her. I give her five stars! Terrific workshop!!”
“Best workshop ever! Even if you have been painting for a long time. Topics cover ways to solve ‘what’s wrong here?’ questions, is organized, clear, easy to understand.”

“Thank you so very much. Rather than trying to ‘copy your paintings,’ you gave us concrete concepts that we can grab onto and incorporate in every painting we do. Workshop is honestly the BEST one I have ever taken!!  Fantabulous!!”

“Patti’s workshop is an exhilarating, heel-kicking, authentic leap into color and value that will knock your artwork to another level. Don’t miss this workshop!”
